Hailey Smith Leads Pawling Softball Into The Sectional Final

PAWLING – Hailey Smith had quite the week in one afternoon.

The sophomore had a run-scoring single, a two-run single and a grand slam on Thursday, driving in seven runs as the top-seeded Pawling High School softball team beat No. 8 Dobbs Ferry, 12-4, in a Section 1, Class B semifinal.

The Tigers will host No. 7 Albertus Magnus for the championship on Friday.

After falling behind early, Pawling freshman Mikaela Mammola made a diving play at second base to end the second inning and get momentum rolling in the Tigers’ direction. She also went 2-for-2 with two singles.

Seniors Natalie Heymach and Celine Wood each contributed with an RBI of their own.

Alexa Chavarri went six innings in the circle and gave up four earned runs while recording six strikeouts.

Freshman Josie O’Leary was awarded the save and struck out the side in the seventh inning to wrap it up.
