ANOTHER THRILLER FOR ARLINGTON VOLLEYBALL

Admirals Go Five Again For Win Over North Rockland

FREEDOM PLAINS – For the third time in as many matches to open the season, the Arlington High School volleyball went the distance with a five-set thriller.

And despite head coach Maria Greenwood’s propensity to wonder if her hair is starting to turn gray, she’ll take it given the results.

Arlington remained undefeated after an outstanding 3-2 non-league victory over Section 1 power North Rockland on Monday afternoon.

Scorers were 19-25, 27-25, 25-10, 16-25 and 26-24.

Molly Stephens had an ace, seven kills and 27 digs for the Admirals, who also received two aces, 16 assists and 13 digs from Jordyn Wilsea, and 10 blocks, six kills and eight digs by Allie Lillis.

“We started a little slow in the first set and then the kids started building on their communication,” Greenwood said. “Very proud of the girls with how they supported each other, especially in the fifth set.”

The Admirals were down 5-14 in the fifth set until Wilsea began to serve and tallied seven straight points to pull Arlington back in the game.

Irene Kitson added three assists, 10 blocks, 16 kills and 12 digs for Arlington. Katie Brennan had a block, five kills and seven digs; Annalisa Alicea posted three aces, one assist and a whopping 39 digs; Noelle Baisley had 13 digs.

“We have a bench,” Greenwood said, “and we have kids who can come in and step up. They’re thinking outside the box and it’s been a while since we’ve done that. I love the makeup of this team.”

Amber Ventura had seven assists, four kills and a dig. Sophia Pugsley kicked in two blocks, two kills and a dig. Taylor Morgantini had an ace, an assist and four digs.
