Admirals Soccer Goes OT To Beat White Plains

FREEDOM PLAINS – Despite not being physically big, the Arlington High School boys soccer team played big on Thursday afternoon.

“We’re not big, so when we go against these physical players it’s a handful,” Admirals coach Craig Sanborn said. “So this is a good win for us.”

Jason Zuluaf scored the winning goal in the first overtime, and Arlington notched its first victory of the year with a 2-1 decision over visiting White Plains.

The Admirals evened their record at 1-1 following last week’s 1-0 loss to Monroe-Woodbury to open the season.

Arlington opened the scoring in the 27th minute, as senior Ben Brooks scored on an assist by Tommy McAlley.

The Tigers evened the score four minutes later when Rhaymani Alexander on a one-on-one move.
That was it for a while as the two teams played even in the second half. But Zuluaf came through eight minutes into the first overtime with a pass from Brooks, who delivered a great through-ball and Zulauf ran on it and slid it past both the White Plains goalie and a defender who raced back to cover.

“A really nice finish on his part. I was real happy for him,” Sanborn said of the sophomore Zulauf.
