Admirals Knock Off Ursuline In Five Sets

FREEDOM PLAINS – In the end, it was exhausting and thrilling and exhilarating and tense.

And Arlington High School volleyball coach Maria Greenwood joked she’ll never do it again.

The Admirals opened the 2019 season on Tuesday with an incredible win over perennial Section 1 power Ursuline in five sets, 18-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-25 and 25-20.

“A spectacular home opener for us against a competitive team,” Greenwood said. “It was great going back and forth with them. But I wouldn’t want to see them again for an opener.”

Setter Jordyn Wilsea had 11 assists, an ace, a kill and five digs. Fellow setter Taylor Morgangini had five assists and six digs.

Molly Stephens served six aces, had 14 kills and 22 digs, Irene Kitson totaled 10 kills and four digs, and Amber Ventura added three aces, six assists, eight kills and three digs.

Libero Annalisa Alicea recorded seven aces and 20 digs.

“We had lost our momentum in that fourth set but the girls came back and stayed ahead the whole fifth set,” Greenwood said. “Communication was the key. The girls work really well when they start communicating.”
