ARLINGTON’S STREAK COMES TO AN END

Girls Soccer Loses First Section 1 Game In Almost Three Years

FREEDOM PLAINS – The streak is over.

Long live the streak.

Patricia DeVito scored late in the first half on Monday, and the Albertus Magnus High School girls soccer team made it hold up for a 1-0 victory over Arlington – the first time the Admirals have lost a game to a Section 1 opponent in nearly three years.

“Despite many opportunities and strong possession, we could not find the back of the net,” Arlington coach Kelley Hand said.

The Admirals are now 4-2-1 on the season. They had not lost to a team from the section since Oct. 15, 2016, the year the Admirals won the first of what is currently three consecutive Section 1, Class AA titles and the year they also won the New York State championship.

In its last 54 games dating back to 2016, Arlington is 49-4-1 – two of the four losses were to Monroe-Woodbury in state regional games.

As for this contest, DeVito took advantage of a weak clearing effort by Arlington, pounced on the ball and delivered the game’s only tally.

Otherwise, Arlington keeper Cassie Coster had eight saves while her counterpart, Magnus’ Anna Donnella, had 14 saves.
