BEACON BOYS TRACK CAPTURES LEAGUE CROWN

Bulldogs Outlast Hen-Hud For Section 1, League 2C Title

MONTROSE – Beacon High School’s depth was the key Wednesday as the boys track and field team posted numerous 1-2-3 and 1-2-4 finishes to win the Section 1, League 2C championship.

The Bulldogs accumulated 147 points, host Hendrick Hudson had 109 and Our Lady of Lourdes finished third with 25 points.

But before we discuss the track, we must talk about the field.

Beacon’s Mark Guzman was the man in the field events, winning the discus, the javelin, the triple jump and the long jump to spark the victory.

Guzman was the only four-event champ at the meet.

Beacon went 1-2-4 in both the 400-yard dash and the 800-run, with Zachary Cader winning both races. Cader took the 400 in a time of 51.08 seconds over teammate Henry Reinke (51.62) and Salvatore Migliore (52.82).

Cader took the 800 in a time of 2 minutes, 15.22 seconds to top teammate Evan LaBelle (2:18.31) and Jack Cleary (2:21.89).

LaBelle didn’t leave empty-handed, however, as he crossed the line first ahead of teammates Joey Buffuto and Cleveland Wright to win the boys 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:05.76.

Wright was the league champ in the 2,000-steeplechase in yet another event where Beacon finished 1-2-3. Wright covered the course in 7:33.90.

In the 3,200 run, it was – you guessed it – the Bulldogs going first through fourth this time with Stephen Schneider winning it over Reinke, Cader and Baffuto.

Bulldog mates Ryan Liao and Rubio Castagna-Torres finished second and third in the 400-yard hurdles.

Jeremiah Vital was third in the 100-yard dash.

The Beacon girls finished second to a powerhouse Hendrick Hudson team as the Sailors won it going away, 179-36.
