BIG NIGHT FOR CHESTER AND LIBERTY

Hambletonians Win Division Crown; Indians’ Penn-Cosentino Reaches Milestone

CHESTER – Kevin Stein barely missed a triple-double on Thursday and his Chester boys basketball team beat Liberty, 65-55, to clinch the OCIAA Division IV championship.

Stein finished with 18 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks to lead the way. Teammate Joe Battiato had seven points, and Gianni Johnson added nine, including a big three-pointer in the fourth quarter.

Jerlyn Hernandez led the Indians with 19 points and teammate Roy Penn-Cosentino added 11, including the 1,000th of his career.

Honestly I knew I was close but didn’t think of it too much. I’ve been so locked in with my boys on just winning and we’re so focused on sectionals that it just hasn’t been my main thought,” Penn-Cosentino told HVSR. “I’ve just been focused on doing what I have to do to contribute to my team. It’s definitely a huge honor and I’m still in shock about it because the past years of me being on varsity I never once asked how many points I’ve scored after a game.”

Penn-Cosentino scored the milestone bucket after a rebound led to a fast-break layup.

“After that play my coach told me “Congrats on the 1,000, now do what you have to do,’” he said. “I just want to thank my coaches and teammates for pushing me, and my boys for balling out and bleeding with me out there on that court night in and night out. It’s truly a blessing.”
