Ashley Goodliffe’s Five Goals Lead Bears Past Lourdes

POUGHKEEPSIE – There shall be no sleeping on the Brewster High School field hockey team this season.

The Bears are off to a 2-0-1 start in their first three games after Ashley Goodliffe exploded on Saturday, leading Brewster to a 9-1 victory over Our Lady of Lourdes.

Goodliffe had five goals and two assists in the victory.

“We’re demonstrating our strong teamwork, dynamic skills and ability to adapt,” Bears coach Jen Hershman said. “As aa coach, I am grateful for the opportunity to have a season in whatever capacity possible. Our field hockey program is constantly growing and improving. The Varsity and JV teams have the chance to demonstrate their talented drives, passes, and ability to score. We will cherish every moment that we get on the field together during these times. These girls are making connections that last past the season.”

Grace O’Gorman had four assists for Brewster, Sasha Kulo had a pair of goals and an assist, Emily Monaco had a goal and an assist, Eva Cucinelli tallied an assist and Lindsay Sxhmitt added her first varsity goal.

For Lourdes, it was the opening match of the year. Midfielder Eliza Petronio scored Lourdes’ first goal of the season, with Kayla Vitro stepping in for the assist.

“Although the game didn’t go our way, I’m happy with our team’s play,” OLL coach Nikkie D’Aleo said. “Our defense made a strong showing, and Eliza’s goal was certainly a morale boost for our girls.”

D’Aleo added that goalkeeper Kaity Meade netted 11 saves and senior Kaitlin Chillemi was strong defensively.
