BREWSTER GIRLS TAKE OWN TOURNAMENT

Bears Are Now 5-0 Overall After Crazy Night

BREWSTER – Well, this did not go exactly as planned but, nonetheless, the Brewster High School girls basketball team is 5-0.

Forced to move their own Brewster Girls Basketball Tournament championship game from the high school to the smaller middle school when the roof started leaking, the Bears eked out a 33-28 victory in the finals against Pelham.

Tournament MVP Alexis Mark continued her torrid play of late with a double-double, 13 points and 12 rebounds. Grace Galgano, who made the all-tournament team, had nine points and 14 boards.

“Alexis has played so solid in the last three games,” Brewster coach Mike Castaldo said. “She’s being real aggressive. Other teams are doubling down on Grace and Lex is on a mission this year to show that she can play too. These last three games she’s been our best player. She deserves this.”

Castaldo said the sudden move to Henry H. Wells Middle School threw everybody off, hence the low-scoring game that featured a 5-5 tie after one quarter and 21-21 after three.

“We really had no choice,” he said. “It was a steady drip and it was not a safe environment.”
