BURKE DEFENSE OVERPOWERS CHESTER

Eagles Hand Hambletonians First Loss

CHESTER – The defense set the tone until the offense caught up for the John S. Burke High School football team on Friday night.

Clinging to a 6-0 halftime lead, the Eagles exploded in the second half and overpowered Chester, 30-12, in a non-league game.

It was the first loss of the season for the Hambletonians while Burke improved to 4-2 overall.

“It was a good win for us to beat an undefeated Chester team,” Eagles coach Aaron Hasbrouck said.

Burke held Chester to just over 50 yards of offense in the first half. The Eagles came out after the break and added a field goal and then Solomon Hemingway got untracked. His touchdown – part of a 188-yard rushing effort – made it 16-0.

Jackson Hoovler threw a great 41-yard touchdown pass to Louis Usera, and Nate Pena’s rushing TD capped the scoring burst and a 30-0 lead.
