Goalie Is Spectacular Throughout As Warriors Beat Hendrick Hudson

POUGHKEEPSIE – The difference between the Our Lady of Lourdes High School girls lacrosse team and Hendrick Hudson on Wednesday was one person.

Madeline Butta.

The goalie had 10 big saves in the tight game, including three tremendous point-blank saves among the final three shots for the Sailors, as the Warriors beat Hendrick Hudson, 10-8.

Lourdes is now 4-8 overall.

“We came off that tough loss on Tuesday and we came out with a mission. To pull a win off like this is a big deal for our program,” OLL coach Mike Galantich said. “It was back and forth there. Hen Hud scored with four minutes left to cut it to 9-8 and we were able to maintain possession and protect that lead, and that’s where Madeline stepped up and made three of the biggest saves I’ve seen in my time here at Lourdes.”

Isabella Clark and Caroline D’Agostino each had the hat trick for the Warriors. Maeve Connolly scored twice and Marguerite McGahay and Allison Brady both had one each.

“They found their heart tonight. I told them it was a turning point,” Galantich said.

The victory came with two potential losses, however. Maeve Connaughton injured her ankle in the win, and Clark suffered a knee injury with about a minute left.
