CARMEL BOYS A STEP AWAY FROM TITLE

Top-Seeded Rams Need OT But Beat Greeley

CARMEL – The storybook season for the Carmel High School boys soccer team continues.

The undefeated Rams got two goals from Simon Douglas, and the top-seeded team in the Putnam/Northern Westchester Large School Regional Tournament beat Horace Greeley, 2-1 in overtime, in a semifinal game on Wednesday.

Carmel, now 10-0, will play John Jay-Cross River in Carmel on Friday for the championship.

Douglas was spectacularly clutch, scoring his first goal off a beautiful cross with five minutes left in regulation to tie the game at 1-1, and then scoring in the first overtime on a pass from Jack Autieria.

“The boys showed their grit and resilience to keep fighting after going down early in the second half,” first-year Rams coach Vasiliy Shevelchinsky said. “We have looked to continue building a culture and a team identity. The boys have bought all in. This is a tight-knit group as a family.”
