Rams Pitch Shutout Over The Patriots

WICCOPEE – It’s rare to see the John Jay High School football team this overwhelmed.

The Patriots, along with Marlboro and Newburgh, have been one of the top two or three teams in the Hudson Valley Sports Report coverage area that has been most dominant in the last decade or so.

So to see Jay dominated in all facets of the game on Friday night in a 31-0 loss to a very good Carmel team was still surprising.

“Carmel played a great game and executed their game plan well,” Patriots coach Tom O’Hare said. “They made the plays.”

The Rams blocked two punts and hit a field goal on special teams, pressured John Jay quarterback Danny Beal all night defensively and moved the ball well on offense with two rushing touchdowns and a Kevin Dall touchdown pass to Andrew Fiore.

“We had a couple of turnovers and when you go down early it can take you out of your game sometimes,” O’Hare said.

John Jay started the season 2-0 but then had to pause for a week. Since then, the Patriots have lost to Suffern and now Carmel.

“I wouldn’t attribute the pause to any outcome that happened tonight,” O’Hare said. “Carmel was the better team.”
