Top Two Seeds Iron Dukes And Hambletonians To Meet For Class B Boys Hoop Title

CHESTER – This was the meeting everybody wanted to see in the finals when the Section 9, Class B boys basketball brackets were announced last week – No. 1 Marlboro High School vs. No. 2 and unbeaten Chester Academy.

A stubborn No. 3 Ellenville was almost the interloper.

Chester had to come from nine points down in the third quarter on Tuesday as the Hambletonians rallied for a 50-44 win over Ellenville in a semifinal game, keeping their undefeated season alive at 21-0.

Chester and Marlboro will square off at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh on Friday at 7 p.m. for the championship.

The Hambos had to dig deep against the Blue Devils, falling behind by nine in the third quarter before rallying to tie the game at 37-37 by the end of the quarter. Chester held Ellenville to just seven points in the final frame to hold in.


Tristan Brideweser led the Hambletonians with a double-double, 13 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Stein had 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists, as well as one very big late-game block. Anthony Feliz also had 12 points and four assists.

For Ellenville, Sean Pettway had a game-high 16 points.

In the other semifinal, Korbyn Samuels had yet another strong game to lead top-seeded Marlboro to a 67-54 win over No. 4 James I. O’Neill.

C.J. Faircloth added 15 points and Collin Casey tossed in 13.
