Outbreak Puts More Than A Dozen Players In Quarantine

POUGHKEEPSIE – A COVID-19 outbreak among the Our Lady of Lourdes High School football program forced the quarantine of more than as dozen players, including seven starters, as the Warriors lost to Brewster, 26-6, on Saturday night.

“We brought some kids up from the JV and we shuffled some positions around,” OLL coach Sean Keenan said. “We had enough kids to field a team, about 20 in uniform, and I couldn’t be more proud of these guys.”

Keenan, in his first year as coach of the Warriors, said he found out about the COVID outbreak on Wednesday.

“We made the decision to play, we rallied the troops, and a lot of kids played who hadn’t played that much before,” he said. “The JV kids did a great job of getting in there and spelling the starters.”

Brewster bolted to a 26-0 lead at halftime and Bears coach Ed Mulvihill drew Keenan’s praise for not taking advantage of the situation.

“Ed was a class act the entire way,” Keenan said. “He did the right thing and I am grateful for his class.”

John Matthew scored Lourdes’ only touchdown and Matt Krauza had 14 tackles for the Warriors.

Lourdes hosts Lakeland next weekend and expects the quarantined players to be back.
