Girls Soccer Coach Reaches Milestone Victory

FLORIDA – As ironic – or oxymoronic – as it might sound, the key to Joe DiMattina’s success in girls soccer has been consistency amidst change.

“You just adjust year to year depending on your personnel,” the S.S. Seward Institute coach said. “Everything changes. The kids you had in your first five years are not the kids you’ve had the last five years.”

But DiMattina has been able to change as needed, hence reaching a milestone on Tuesday. With Seward’s 9-0 win over Fallsburg, DiMattina reached the 300th victory of his career.

“It means a lot,” he told HVSR. “It means a lot to the program but it says more about the kids I’ve had over the years.”

This is DeMattine’s 21st season, including the first six at Tuxedo.

Eight different players got in on the celebratory goal scoring in the milestone victory, including two from Alexa Roach. Sophia Augustyn, Nora Howell, Athena Moustakos, Gianna Conde, McKenzie Richner, Danielle Mabee and Shannon Sgombick also scored.

Katie Mulhane did not need to make a save for Seward.
