Patriots Shake Off Arlington Loss, Beat Mahopac

WICCOPEE – To paraphrase the immortal words of LL Cool J – kids, ask your parents if you must – don’t call it a bounce-back for John Jay High School football.

“Not so much bounce-back as just improving,” Patriots coach Tom O’Hare said as Jay shook off the loss to Arlington and whipped Mahopac, 33-14, on Friday night.

The Patriots are now 2-1.

“Look, last week happened and you move on,” O’Hare added. “It was more an emphasis on getting better.”

Luke Mahon rushed for two touchdowns and threw for one to Mike Blanchard in the victory.

Mason Payton rushed for a three-yard score and Jordan Croce added a 3-yard score as well. It was the first varsity touchdown for the sophomore Payton.

“He did a nice job tonight,” O’Hare said.

The coach added that the only change to the regimen this week was mostly esoteric.

“We watched more game film than we typically do,” he said. “We had more notes as coaches and really focused on what areas we needed to focus on. We looked like a different team in practice, a better team, this week.”

The Patriots take on their traditional rival Ketcham in Wappingers Falls on Friday night.
