DOVER SOFTBALL RIDES STRENGTH OF GAGLIARDI GIRLS

Dragons Open Season With Big Victory

AMENIA – After waiting more than two years to play a game, what’s a few more days?

The Dover High School softball team finally got a chance to play its first game on Monday, the pent-up demand was overwhelming as the Dragons beat Webutuck, 22-0, in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League contest.

Dover rode the wave created by the Gagliardi girls. Sophomore Ava Gagliardi, in her first start as a pitcher, threw a five-inning no-hitter for the victory in a steady rain. She struck out 10.

Dover was led at the plate by her senior sister, Jenna Gagliardi, who hit for the cycle.

“Both are rare occurrences but to have it happen in the same game by sisters makes it special,” Dragons coach Tony Ketchin said.

Dover plays Pine Plains at home on Thursday
