Warriors Seal It With Blocked PAT

POUGHKEEPSIE – While the offense waits to get untracked, the Our Lady of Lourdes High School football team used defense, special teams and heart to earn its first victory.

A Pick-6 interception return, a critical blocked extra point and some old-fashioned great were the ingredients as the Warriors beat Hendrick Hudson, 13-12, on Friday night.

OLL is now 1-2 overall.

“Tonight was the true definition of a team effort. I couldn’t be any happier for my brothers,” Lourdes lineman Jake Timm told HVSR. “But we know we have a lot of work to do and a long road ahead of us. We’ll be ready. Coming into the game 0-2, we were hungrier than ever. The first win of the season gives us momentum, hopefully we can keep going.”

Timm had a big game with numerous tackles, a caused fumble and a blocked field goal attempt just before the half.

Lourdes led 6-0 on an Angelo Salotto 20-yard run before the Sailors tied the game 6-6. Late in the fourth quarter, Hen-Hud was driving for the go-ahead score when John Jacobs stepped in front of a pass and returned the interception 59 yards for a score and a 13-6 lead.

The Sailors would not go away, however, driving down the field again, this time to a score. At 13-12, Hen-Hud was looking to drill the extra point to send it into overtime when Zach Barber blocked the point after.

“This is just the beginning,” Timm said. “This group of guys may not have the talent like previous years, but we still got the heart. And heart was the main key to tonight’s win.”
