Franza Scores Twice In Girls Soccer Victory

ELLENVILLE – A flurry of scoring helped the Ellenville High School girls soccer team to a 4-3 Mid-Hudson Athletic League victory on Monday over visiting Millbrook.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Millbrook’s Eleeana Francia scored the first two goals of the game to spot the Blazers an early 2-0 lead. But the host Blue Devils came back with a scoring burst – four goals in 13 minutes, all in the first half, to take control of the game.

Sydney Franza scored twice for Ellenville, Katherine Lopez added a goal and Sophie Santiago also scored.

Millbrook’s Kaleigh Tompkins tallied at the 52-minute mark to trim the deficit to one, but after all that scoring it was a quiet final 28 minutes.

“Overall I was happy with the way the girls played.  We got up 2-0 and tried some different combinations with younger players on our backline, and Ellenville exploited them,” Millbrook coach Jerome Canzoneri said. “We made some adjustments and limited a strong Ellenville attack to one shot in the second half.  We had our chances to tie it up.  We are young, and learned a hard lesson here; hopefully it will help us down the road.”
