ELLENVILLE FIELD HOCKEY NIPS SPACKENKILL

Blue Devils Cash In During Overtime

ELLENVILLE – Welp, it took a while for the Ellenville High School field hockey team to cash in a goal.

But in the end, as long as you’re one goal better than the other team that’s all that matters, right?

It took the Blue Devils into overtime and a total of 24 shots on goal during the game, but they eked out a 1-0 Mid-Hudson Athletic League victory over Spackenkill on Wednesday.

It was the season opener for both teams.

The game-winner came from Emily Lutz with an assist by Ireland Travis at the 6:50 mark over overtime.

Robie Sangster and Lauren Franza combined for the shutout for Ellenville, saving the only shot the Spartans had on goal.

Spackenkill goalie Sabina Hossain was outstanding with 13 saves and keeping her team in the game.
