ELLENVILLE SLIPS PAST ONTEORA

Gonzalez’s Goal In The First OT Is The Difference

ELLENVILLE – Brandon Gonzalez scored in the first overtime on Thursday, and that was the difference as the Ellenville High School boys soccer team defeated Onteora, 1-0, in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League match.

The Blue Devils are 5-1 overall and secured a Section 9 playoff berth with the win. Onteora is 2-3 overall.

Kyle Guiney played a perfect ball for Tim Placide to run on to in overtime, and Placide fed it across to Gonzalez to finish off the play and the only goal.

“We played great soccer tonight. Onteora defended well, their keeper played great, and we couldn’t finish off our chances, especially early in the game,” Ellenville coach Maxwell Mead said. “Both keepers kept their team alive tonight. Onteora gained some momentum late in the

second half and could have finished us off, but Christian Stinehour made two huge saves.”
