Football Team Wins First Game Since 2012

FALLSBURG – Drastic times call for dramatic measures.

Down by two touchdowns to start the fourth quarter and starting at a 30th consecutive loss, the Fallsburg High School football team scored 28 points in the final 12 minutes to stun Dover, 34-26, for the Comets’ first win in six years.

The 29-game losing streak was the longest in the state, but with an asterisk – Fallsburg had two winless seasons and three years without a varsity football program during that span, including losses in its first eight games this year.

Jesse Acevedo and Angel Rivera keyed the comeback. Acevedo rushed for 173 yards and scored on touchdowns of 23, 60 and 40 yards. He also added 10 tackles and a sack.

Rivera had 118 yards on the ground and a touchdown, as well as 13 tackles and a fumble recovery. Pete Lutman also had a fumble recovery and five tackles.
