FDR SOFTBALL SET FOR SHOWDOWN

Presidents Top Warwick, Get Unbeaten Minisink Valley Next

HYDE PARK – The Franklin D. Roosevelt High School softball won a slugfest on Tuesday.

Now the Presidents are preparing for what likely will be a pitchers’ duel.

Fourth-seeded FDR posted a 9-7 win over No. 5 Warwick in a Section 9, Class AA quarterfinal game.

That sets up a showdown between Roosevelt, now 18-3 and ranked 25th in the state, and Minisink Valley, unbeaten at 19-0 and ranked No. 2 in the state. That semifinal game will take place on Thursday.

FDR’s Aliya Feerick went 3-for-4 on the day with a double and two singles, and an RBI. Winning pitcher Madchen Knauss and Bri Palermo both had two hits, and Abby Lee doubled, hit a sacrifice fly and drove in three runs.

Britt Tagg doubled twice and singled for Warwick. Hannah Hennessy also had two doubles.
