Middies Rally From 4-0 Down For Softball Victory

MIDDLETOWN – In her first year on the varsity, Christianna McCloud is making a difference for the Middletown High School softball team.

McCloud came on in relief to throw five innings of three-run ball on Wednesday, allowing the Middies to rally from an early 4-0 deficit for a 9-8 OCIAA victory over Warwick.

Middletown is now 2-1 overall.

McCloud gave up six hits and struck out five, seemingly getting stronger as she went along. Case in point – she finished the game in the seventh inning by facing Warwick’s 3-4-5 hitters and went strikeout, strikeout, pop out.

“For a freshman, I thought she showed a lot of poise,” Middies coach Denise McKeown-Simonson said. “I thought that was big.”
