Gladiators Beat Chester To Move To 1-1

GOSHEN – Jess Pehush was raking on Thursday.

Pehush had four hits, scored three times and drove in a pair of runs as the Goshen High School softball team evened its record at 1-1 with a 16-4 OCIAA victory over Chester.

Chester was without its regular starting pitcher, and gave the emergency start to JV pitcher Sarah Milyko.

The Gladiators took advantage as senior first baseman Vic Fini hit her first varsity home run to ignite a six-run first inning. Fini finished with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored.

Jayna Celano also had three hits, three RBI and scored twice, and winning pitcher Meg Doyle had three hits, knocked in a run and scored three times.

Goshen made several solid defensive plays to limit Chester’s scoring chances in the third and fourth innings to back Doyle, who struck out four and scattered six hits for the win.

“She moved the ball around and kept Chester’s hitters off balance for most of the day,” Gladiators coach Mike Kelly said of Doyle.

For Chester, leadoff hitter Janeen Gomez was a tough out all day, with two hits and three runs scored. Tara Danilak also had two hits.
