Blue Devils Top Bronxville To Open The Season

BRONXVILLE – The Monteleone sisters dominated on the floor and coach Jessica Perrone got her first win, as the Haldane High School girls basketball team beat Bronxville, 55-45, to open the season on Friday night.

Bela Monteleone had 19 points to lead Haldane, and Olivia Monteleone had 16 rebounds to go with her six points.

Perrone has taken over on an interim basis until head coach Tyrone Searight can resolve his legal issues. Searight was one of two men arrested last month on charges of third-degree grand larceny and two counts of fraudulent practices, both felonies. Prosecutors say Searight claimed workers compensation benefits two years ago when in fact he was healthy enough to coach. He has maintained his innocence and said the issue was one of a paperwork problem.

“We played a well-rounded game with all players making contributions on the floor,” Perrone said. “Our outside shooting was on tonight, and Olivia Monteleone came up big for us in the post.”

Another Olivia, Olivia McDermott, led Haldane with 20 points and four assists.
