HIGHLAND TENNIS STAKES ITS CLAIM

Huskies Earn Strong Win Over Saugerties

SAUGERTIES – For years in Mid-Hudson Athletic League girls tennis it has been Spackenkill and Saugerties, Saugerties and Spackenkill, with a few other schools mixed in here and there.

Well, make way for Highland.

The Huskies surrendered the No. 1 singles match and then won the rest in an impressive 4-1 win over the Sawyers on Friday.

Saugerties’ Mehal Mitra captured an 8-6 victory over Allie Fuccen at first singles, and from there it was all Highland.

Maggie VanValkenburg beat Amy Hoyt, 8-5, and Lena Than topped Alayna VanNosdall, 8-4, at second and third singles, respectively.

Highland swept the doubles as Becca Ness and Emma Fuccen defeated Hannah Hoyt and Marlo Rothe, 8-3, at No. 1 while Grace Koehler and Riya Shenoy edged Chloe Turner and Hannah Mills, 8-6.
