HIGHLAND VOLLEYBALL WINS AGAIN, PREPS FOR THE MOUNT

Huskies Sweep Rondout Valley For Second Straight Victory

KYSERIKE – Gabby Keeffe had eight kills and five aces on Thursday, as the Highland High School volleyball team won its second straight match to open the season with a 3-0 sweep of Rondout Valley.

The scores were 25-12, 25-7 and 25-15.

That sets up the Huskies, the defending Section 9, Class B champions, with an early-season showdown on Friday with Class D powerhouse Mount Academy.

Daniella Grant had a pair of kills and five aces for Highland, while Katie Dauenheimer delivered four aces.

For Rondout, Meghan Merck had four digs and four aces while
Erin Parete totaled seven digs.

Highland opened the season with a sweep of O’Neill in a non-league match in which Jessica Gentile had eight kills and five aces. Keeffe also had five aces in the win and Dauenheimer led the way with nine aces. Grant had five kills and Marissa Incorvaia handed out 13 assists.

With only two starters lost from last year’s title team, second-year coach Colleen Giametta has high expectations.

“Our strengths this year are in our strong base of returning athletes who have the will to win. They have experienced sectional play for the first time in their high school volleyball career and are determined to return to the playoffs again this season,” she said. “Our goal is to return to the sectional tournament and to also play in the MHAL Tournament for the first time in school history.”
