HS INDOOR TRACK: Newburgh, Beacon 4×400 relay teams sizzle at Millrose trials; Bulldogs set Dutchess County mark

NEW YORK – Those little wisps of smoke on the track at the New York City Armory on Monday night were coming from the heels of the Newburgh Free Academy and Beacon High School 4×400 relay teams.

NFA finished second in the Suburban Combined event at the Millrose Games trials, and the Bulldogs placed fourth – breaking a 15-year old Dutchess County record in the process – as both advanced to the prestigious Millrose Games on Feb. 20.

The Goldbacks’ team ran the 4×400 in a time of 3 minutes, 21.55 seconds – 41 hundredths of a second behind East Ramapo.

Beacon’s team of David Adams, Ian Soares, Colin Battersby and Rayvon Grey took fourth in 3:25.55, breaking the Dutchess County record of 3:26.57 set by John Jay in 2001.

Newburgh’s Jahnique Dessaline and Bobby Williams finished fourth and seventh, respectively, in the 55-meter dash to earn qualifying berths.

NFA also finished second in the girls Suburban 4×400 relay.
