IT’S FDR BY A STROKE

Presidents Top New Paltz In Great Golf Match

STAATSBURG – For the second time in as many weeks, Franklin D. Roosevelt-New Paltz was most anticipated high school golf match of the season.

And for the second time it lived up to the hype.

FDR’s Joe Nesbitt outdueled Nick Puleo, and Liam Murrasso came off the course in the last group one shot better than his opponent, and the Presidents beat the Huguenots, 159-160, in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League match.

Both teams are now 4-1, with New Paltz having handed Roosevelt its only loss two weeks ago by just six strokes. This time, it was even closer.

“We haven’t beaten New Paltz in a couple of years, so our kids were excited,” FDR coach Kevin Hart said.

The match was played at par-34 Dinsmore Golf Club, and Nesbitt earned medalist honors with a 35 to Puleo’s 37.

“Joe was super focused,” Hart said. “He hit almost every fairway and was real solid on the greens. He was excited to beat the best golfer in the area. Joe was just ultra-consistent today.”

FDR’s Mike Bucholsky shot 42, seventh-grader Ike Rothman shot 43 and Murrasso came off the course in the last group with a season-low 42 – a shot better than John Goodermote’s 43.

Josh Clinton of New Paltz carded a 39 and Oliver Watson shot 41.

“We definitely have gotten better over these last couple of weeks,” Hart said. “That’s a credit to the kids who played a lot over the summer.”
