Erin Fox wanted to be a Fox.

A Red Fox, that is, and that’s why she verbally committed to the Marist College women’s basketball program two years ago as a sophomore at Millbrook High School.

“I never wavered,” Fox told HVSR after she signed her National Letter of Intent last week and was officially welcomed into the Marist program on Wednesday, along with four other recruits. “Marist was where I wanted to go, needed to go, and I was always comfortable in my choice.”

Fox joined Zaria Demember-Shazer, Anabel Ellison, Emma Wax and Caitlin Weimar to comprise the Red Foxes Class of 2024 for head coach Brian Giorgis and staff.

“We are thrilled to welcome Zaria, Anabel, Erin, Emma and Caitlin, along with their families, to our Marist Women’s Basketball program,” Giorgis said in a statement. “We see each impacting our team in different ways, as they have diverse and unique skills to bolster our roster. They are all leaders and will have an immediate impact on our locker room. These new Red Foxes will have big shoes to fill, but we feel they are up to the challenge.”

Fox was one of three forwards and two guards to ink their letters.

“Signing the NLI means that I have security in my future and can start working toward understanding Marist basketball and getting myself ready for college,” said Fox, who led Millbrook to a state championship as a sophomore. “I’m mostly looking forward to the people. The coaches and the team are so awesome and make you feel super comfortable.”

Fox is recuperating from a torn ACL and was just given the clearance to begin workouts.

“As of right now I am easing myself back into basketball but my plan is to play this year,” she said. “I am trusting the process and I’ll become comfortable playing again.”
