The John Jay High School girls soccer team opened the season this weekend with two games within 19 hours, falling on Friday afternoon and winning on Saturday morning.

The Patriots opened their season with a 3-1 loss to New Rochelle. Jenna Waldbilling scored the lone goal for John Jay.

Kristina Kakavas made four saves and Lauren Piccone had three as they shared the goalkeeping duties.

On Saturday, John Jay needed overtime but the Patriots beat Yorktown, 2-1.

Ava Viebrock had both goals for the winners, with Grace Morra and Jenna Waldbillig on the assists. Kakavas had seven saves.
