Volleyball Team Wins In Five Sets After Trailing 2-1

WICCOPEE – With both teams wearing teal to bring exposure to ovarian cancer, and with State Sen. Sue Serino in attendance, host John Jay and visiting Arlington high school volleyball put on a show Tuesday.

Down 2-1 in sets, John Jay rallied for the victory in five, beating the Admirals 25-18, 15-25, 23-25, 26-24 and 25-13.

“Our teams know each other on and off the court and it is a very friendly competition,” Patriots coach Maria Mahoney said.

MJ Cadden led Jay with 30 assists and six digs. Carley Lynch was outstanding with 19 digs, 16 kills and six aces. Vjosa Gjikolli had 11 kills, Max Payton had seven kills, nine digs, two aces and three blocks, and Torrie Urbanowicz tallied nine kills and three aces.

Mahoney said Hailey Howard and Brooke Borba combined libero duties for “outstanding defense against a very good offensive team.”

Arlington was paced Molly Stephens, who had 28 digs, 13 kills and an ace, and Katie Brennan, who had 12 kills and six digs.

Irene Kitson had 10 digs, nine kills and three blocks, Jordyn Wilsea had 18 assists, nine digs, five aces and one kill, Taylor Morgantini had 13 digs and seven assists, and Noelle Baisley had 13 digs.

Annalisa Alicea was all over the floor for the Admirals with 37 digs.
