JAY VOLLEYBALL ‘GETTING COMFORTABLE’

Patriots Beat Clarkstown South, Prep For Mahopac

WICCOPEE – Though it was not intended to be, this might be a warning to future opponents of John Jay High School volleyball.

“The team is starting to get comfortable playing together.  We have a great problem – every player is able to start.  We are having trouble getting everyone enough time on the court per game,” Patriots coach Maria Mahoney said after her team beat Clarkstown South, 3-1, on Monday. “But as the season has unfolded, each player is getting more competitive opportunities so it has been a slow climb toward league competition.”

Scores of the match were 25-13, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-18.

Krysti McDonald had 15 kills and four digs for the Patriots, while Abbie Welch had eight kills and three digs.

Janelle Humphries had 14 assists and Haley Karst did her thing with four kills, four digs, four service aces and six assists.

“With a little patience, we now believe we can win and are playing as a team,” Mahoney said. “We are looking forward to our next game against Mahopac Wednesday.  It is our first league game and Mahopac is very good this season.  We have to come out with our best game plan, limit our errors and swing to win.”
