Patriots Go On The Road To Beat Ossining

OSSINING – The John Jay High School football team put in a new wrinkle Friday night and bounced back from its first loss.

The Patriots utilized two quarterbacks in the game – Jake Vanderoef and Brady Feliciotto – and beat Ossining, 28-7, in a road game.

John Jay is now 2-1 overall.

After losing to New Rochelle 39-0 last week, the Patriots came out against the Pride and showed the platoon system after Feliciotto had come in for two series in the win over Port Chester and one against New Rochelle.

“People think it’s a wildcat when we put our running back in at quarterback but it’s not a wildcat,” John Jay coach Tom O’Hare said. “I thought both quarterbacks did a great job tonight.”

Sophomore Noah Croutch scored from three yards out to start the scoring for the Patriots and the 7-0 lead held up until halftime.

In the third quarter, Mason Payton had a four-yard run and it was a 14-0 game after Payton caught a long pass from Vanderoef.

A Vanderoef pass to Martin Martini went for a 55-yard screen for a touchdown, and the last score of the night was Feliciotto on a three-yard run.

“Look, we knew we were going in against a very good team last week and we knew we didn’t play our best,” O’Hare said. “We went into this game with the goal of minimizing mistakes. We cleaned up a couple of things and we got three starters back that didn’t play last week.”

It doesn’t get any easier for Jay – it’s Carmel next week.
