JOHN JAY GIRLS IMPROVE TO 2-0

Patriots Take Opening Two-Game Set From RCK

WAPPINGERS FALLS – The John Jay High School girls basketball team moved to 2-0 on Tuesday night, sweeping a season-opening two-game set from rival Roy C. Ketcham with a 62-57 victory.

Ashley Buragas led John Jay with 15 points, while Stephanie Jean-Baptiste added 14. Grace Kennedy tallied nine points.

The Patriots had an eight-point lead at the half and nine to start the final quarter. But Ketcham clawed back, and cut it to three with 50 seconds to go with the ball but missed a three-pointer.

“Given that the kids have been together for just two weeks, it was a pretty good flow on both sides,” Ketcham coach Pat Mealy said. “It was typical Ketcham-Jay – both teams battled hard. Jay has a very nice team.”

Ketcham junior Cali Chiocchi led all scorers with 24 points. Freshman Caitlin Robertson scored 11 points and Megan Fitzsimmons added nine points.
