JOHN JAY GIRLS IMPROVE TO 2-1

Patriots Win A Tight One Against Clarkstown North

WICCOPEE – Ava Viebrock got the only goal of the game Wednesday as the John Jay High School girls soccer team beat Clarkstown North, 1-0, in a non-league match.

The Patriots are now 2-1 overall.

Viebrock tallied when Jay played a ball onto the feet of big sister Hayley Viebrock, who drew the defender and slipped it to Ava for the score.

“Hayley did a lot of the work,” John Jay coach C.J. Greenwood said, “and Ava had the patience to finish.”

Kristina Kakavas made five saves in the first half, while Lauren Piccone made a tremendous save in the second half, punching the ball over the crossbar on a North scoring attempt with eight seconds left.

“My back four is playing phenomenal,” Greenwood said. “We’re very young in a lot of the field but the girls are figuring out how we want them to play and the manner in which we want them to play. It’s still a work in progress.”

The Patriots are home to Suffern on Saturday afternoon.
