JOHN JAY VOLLEYBALL MOVES INTO QUARTERS

Patriots Sweep Past Mamaroneck

WICCOPEE – John Jay High School volleyball coach Maria Mahoney said that “solid defense and consistent serving kept us on the winning side.”

She wasn’t kidding.

Makenzie Dixon went 17-for-18 from the service line and the Patriots’ defense combined for 42 digs, as No. 7 John Jay swept No. 10 Mamaroneck, 3-0, in the opening round of the Section 1, Class AA tournament on Friday.

Scores were 25-10, 25-18, 25-21.

The Patriots will travel to No. 2 North Rockland on Tuesday in a quarterfinal game.

MJ Cadden had 32 assists for Jay while Chailyn Schroll had 11 kills and

Torrie Urbanowicz added eight kills.

Carley Lynch added nine kills, seven digs and three aces, and Max Payton tallied eight kills, 10 digs and two assists.

The Patriots are looking forward to the rematch with the Raiders.

“The last time we played North Rockland we lost in five sets (on September 10),” Mahoney said. “It was a well-played game then. This should be a good match.”
