Belmonte, Mealy Lead The Way For Each Team

WAPPINGERS FALLS – Abby Mealy scored a game-high 18 points on Thursday night, leading the Roy C. Ketcham High School girls basketball team to a 63-35 win over Beacon on Senior Night.

The boys also beat Beacon, 62-38.

Jaylyn Chorba added 11 points for the RCK girls and Camryn Greene chipped in 10.

Tyanna Adams had a team-high 11 points for Beacon and Reilly Landisi added 10.

“This game was unique for us in so many ways. I’ve coached a lot of these seniors for four years and we gave them the opportunity to play the first and the fourth quarters,” Ketcham girls coach Pat Mealy said. “They’re such a great group of girls. This night was about them and about giving them an opportunity to all play together.”

Abby Mealy, Megan Fitzsimmons, Jennifer Hanley, Emily Ramage, Holly Walker and Tatiana Ayala-Birriel are Ketcham’s five seniors.

“What they have done for this program and the effort they put in is invaluable,” Pat Mealy said.

As for the boys, Daniel Belmonte led the Indians with 21 points. Vashaun Wallace tossed in 18 and Owen Paino added 10

Jack Philipbar led the Bulldogs with nine points and Kelly Dillon had seven points. Chase Green and Smirat Mann both had six points.

Ketcham is now 4-1 overall

“We got off to a really hot start. We were up 39-14 at halftime and our defensive intensity was through the roof,” RCK boys coach Mike Paino said. “Our defense was locked in.”
