John Jay Boys Track Wins The League Meet

NEW YORK – Jonathan Mahon broke two school records and Ja’Lil Reynolds tied one, and the John Jay High School boys indoor track team captured the Section 1, Conference A, League 1 championship.

The meet was held at The Armory in New York City.

It was the first indoor league title for the Patriots since 2005 as Jay accumulated 120.5 points, beating Arlington (105.5), Ketcham (55), Carmel (35) and Mahopac (18).

Mahon broke school records in the 55-meters and 300-meters. He placed second overall in the 55 at 6.61 seconds and then came back to win the 300 in 34.94 seconds, the fourth-fastest time in the state this year.

Mahon then ignited the 4×200 relay team to a win; the Patriots also finished third in the 4×800 relay.

Reynolds tied a school record in winning the high jump at 6-feet, 5-inches, which is currently tied for the fifth-best jump in New York. Reynolds also won the triple jump with a leap of 39’9″ and finished fourth in the long jump.

Spencer Freer won the long jump at 21’1″ and finished second in the triple by mere inches behind his teammate at 39’8.25″. He also placed second in the high jump.

John Amenta finished second in the 1,000 meters, second in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200.

Patrick Cullen finished second in the 3,200 and third in the 1,600.

John Dewey was second in the 55 hurdles and fifth in the long jump.
