Lofaro, Polumbo Combine For 28 In Girls’ Victory

HIGHLAND – The guard and the post player were up to their old tricks on Saturday in the season opener for the Marlboro High School girls basketball team.

Backcourt standout Liz Lofaro had a game-high 17 points and frontcourt star Hannah Polumbo added 11, leading the Dukes to a 55-43 victory over Highland.

Ella Ledue added seven points for Marlboro.

Highland’s Grace Koehler – daughter of Marlboro boys basketball coach Mike Koehler – led the Huskies with 15 points, all on three-pointers. Dehana Stevens had eight points and Adrianna Scalo added seven points.

Highland is 0-2.

“I thought we improved immensely from our first game against Wallkill on Wednesday,” new Huskies coach Mike Geller said. “I knew we were going to have our hands full with Liz and Hannah. Liz created some space on the floor and they have some three-point shooters on their team that were able to spread us out.”
