Warriors Slip Past Mahopac; Admirals Roll Over Carmel

MAHOPAC – Showdown’s set.

Both the Our Lady of Lourdes and Arlington high school girls basketball teams won on Wednesday night, setting up a key league clash on Friday night.

Lourdes improved to 9-2 overall with a fourth-quarter comeback win over Mahopac, 67-65, while Arlington rolled to a 56-36 win over Carmel to move to 10-1.

The two teams, both 3-0 in the league, square off on Friday at 6:15 p.m. at Lourdes.

OLL has been hurting of late, with the flu bug running through the team. Sam Fischer just came back after missing a week and Ashley Seymour is now out. But the Warriors rallied from a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit to nip a good Mahopac team.

“We definitely gutted this one out,” Lourdes coach Al Viani said.

Skyler Felice had a huge bucket to tie bring OLL back and tie the game at 63-63, and Sofia Feigelson’s driving layup proved to be the game-winner.

Feifelson had a solid all-around game with 13 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, Fischer fought off the after-effects of the flu to score nine, and Ava Learn led everybody with 31 points.

Mia Klammer, Mel DeMeo, and Caitlin O’Boyle all had 15 points each for the Indians, who will certainly remain in the picture as they season progresses.

As for Arlington, the Admirals had it easier in their 20-point win. Molly Stephens had 16 points and six steals, Mia Castillo had 13 points and six assists, and Morgan Hammell added seven points and eight rebounds.

“We were cold from the field for a majority of the game, but did enough on the defensive end to earn our 10th straight win,” Arlington coach Kim Costello said. “Carmel played hard and kept the game closer than the final score indicated.”

Danielle Bello led Carmel with 12 points.
