MAHOPAC GYMNASTS TO GO FOR THIRD STRAIGHT TITLE

Indians Win Division I Team Title, Set For Sectionals On Thursday

MAHOPAC – The Mahopac High School gymnastics team is going for the hat trick.

The Indians captured the Section 1, Division 1 team title with 174.60 points and will go for its third straight overall sectional title on Thursday at Carmel High School.

Mahopac will face off against the combined team of Lakeland-Panas/Putnam Valley, winner of the Division II title with 170.025 points, and Clarkstown South, which came in third overall and second in Division II.

At the same time, 32 gymnasts will vie for the individual all-around title, which Mahopac’s Callie Johanson shared with Wappingers’ Olivia Frederick last year.

Frederick left her team earlier this year in a dispute with her coach.

Clarkstown’s 13-year old Alexa Henshaw won the all-around at the divisionals.

Johanson won the Division I all-around title as well as the vault, balance beam and floor exercises.

Other qualifiers from local teams include Mahopac’s Sydney Hughes, Jamison Castrataro, Chloe Lee and Lia Graap; Carmel’s Rebecca Monge and Kylie Rosenquest; Wappingers’ Zoe Markou, Jessica Healey, Jocelyn Lichwick, Cheylene Sura, Zoe Felis and Kiara O’Meara; and Lakeland-Panas/Putnam Valley’s Jana Frattelione, Catherine Panzanaro and Alyssa Limardo.
