MARIST FOOTBALL DROPS SEASON OPENER

Red Foxes Hammered By Georgetown In Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Georgetown University scored the final 36 points of the game on Saturday, beating Marist College 43-3 in the Red Foxes’ season opener.

The game’s first points came on a 17-yard touchdown run by Georgetown quarterback Gunther Johnson with 3:48 left in the first quarter. The Hoyas led 7-0 after the first 15 minutes.

Marist redshirt freshman Luke Paladino hit a 36-yard field goal with 8:51 left in the second quarter for the Red Foxes’ first – and last – points.

Joseph Brunell connected with Joshua Tomas for a 13-yard touchdown, and Khristian Tate added a two-point conversion on a run. This gave the Hoyas a 15-3 lead late in the second quarter.

With seven seconds left in the first half, Tomas’ one-yard touchdown run gave the Hoyas a 22-3 lead going to the locker room.

The Hoyas scored three touchdowns in a span of 8:19, which expanded their lead to 43-3 through three quarters and closed out the scoring.

Marist hosts Stetson on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Tenney Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon.
