MARIST MEN GO WIRE-TO-WIRE FOR WIN

Foxes Roll Past Niagara In MAAC Play

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY – The Marist College men’s basketball team went wire-to-wire Friday night, never trailing in a 67-48 victory over Niagara in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at the Gallagher Center.

Marist is 5-14 overall and 4-6 in MAAC play. Niagara is 6-14 on the season and 4-5 in conference.

Matt Herasme opened the scoring with a three-pointer at the 18:32 mark, and Marist held Niagara without a field goal for the first 6:17.

A 9-0 run, capped by a Jordan Jones layup with 10:26 left in the first half, staked Marist to a 16-5 advantage.

 

The Red Foxes closed the first half on a 9-0 run, and held the Purple Eagles scoreless over the final 4:01, as they took a 33-17 halftime lead.

Niagara never got closer than 11 points in the second half.

Jones led all scorers with 18 points, tying his career-high. Jones also had eight rebounds, three steals, two blocked shots, and two assists.

Michael Cubbage finished with 12 points, a game-high 11 rebounds, and a game-high six assists.

Braden Bell gave the Red Foxes three double-digit scorers with 15. He was 4-for-4 from three-point range, and Marist was +23 with him on the floor.

Marist closes out the Buffalo trip, and plays the last of its three straight road games, at Canisius on Sunday. Tip-off at the Koessler Athletic Center is set for 2 p.m.
