Marist men’s soccer picked 8th in preseason MAAC poll

EDISON, N.J. – The Marist men’s soccer team was chosen to finish eighth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) for the 2013 season in the preseason poll that was voted on by the conference’s 11 head coaches and released on Monday.

The Red Foxes registered 46 points in the polling, just behind Canisius (48) and ahead of Saint Peter’s (34), Manhattan (30), and Rider (24).

“I think us being picked eighth is obviously a reflection of how we finished the season last year” said head coach Matt Viggiano. “I know I speak for the team when I say that we look forward to proving that that was an aberration.”

The Red Foxes are coming off a 5-10-1 record in 2012. Marist graduated standout Stephan Brossard, who ended his career with 30 goals and 19 assists, totals that find him in the top 10 in both categories. Sixteen letterwinners return for the Red Foxes this season in addition to six incoming freshmen and two upperclassmen transfers.

The Red Foxes will open their 2013 campaign on Friday, Aug. 30 on the road at UC Irvine. They will play their first home contest on Saturday, Sept. 14 against New Hampshire at 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium.
