Red Foxes Lose MAAC Championship To Monmouth

POUGHKEEPSIE – The run is over.

Top-seeded Marist College lost for the second time to No. 2 Monmouth on Saturday, falling in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship game on Saturday, 6-1, at Gartland Field on the Poughkeepsie campus.

Both teams were scoreless in the first two innings as Megan Beiermeister had four strikeouts.

Monmouth got on the board first with a solo home run to left center from Jasmine Higa in the top of the third inning.


Deangie Jimenez hit a single into left field to advance two runners home and extend the score for Monmouth to 3-0 in the fourth.

A second solo home run in the fifth extended the lead to 4-0 for the Hawks. Kaleen Leesberg came into the game in relief and pitched Marist out of the fifth.

Hailee Jantorno scored Marist’s first run of the game, scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth.

Monmouth added two more runs to close out the seventh inning.

Beiermeister finished the game with seven strikeouts and two earned runs.

Monmouth held Marist to two hits. Tournament MVP Alyssa Irons had five strikeouts against the Red Foxes.

Marist left six runners on base.
