MARIST WOMEN WIN SEVENTH STRAIGHT

Red Foxes Strengthen Hold On First Place

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Senior captain Rebekah Hand scored 26 points, redshirt senior captain Alana Gilmer added 20 points and six rebounds, and the surging Marist College women’s basketball team outscored Saint Peter’s 42-23 in the second half to take an 82-60 win on Thursday evening at the Yanitelli Center.

The Red Foxes boosted their winning streak to seven games and their MAAC record to 14-2, along with a 21-4 overall record. The Peacocks drop to 5-11 in MAAC play and 8-17 overall.

Redshirt senior captain Grace Vander Weide totaled 14 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, while junior forward Willow Duffell posted 12 points and seven boards.

Briyanah Richardson paced Saint Peter’s with 20 points.

 

 

 

The game was entertaining and tight in the first half, with the Red Foxes holding just a three-point lead at halftime.

It was still a five-point game late in the third quarter when Gilmer was left open on the left wing and canned the trey to make it 54-46 Red Foxes.

Redshirt junior forward Molly Smith and Rebekah Hand drilled triples as a 10-3 Marist spurt gave the visitors a 64-51 cushion after three quarters.
