MARK, GALGANO POWER BREWSTER GIRLS

Calicchia Comes Off Bench To Help Bears Win Sectional Game

BREWSTER – Alexis Mark and Grace Galgano had dominant inside games for Brewster High School, and Adrianna Calicchia came off the bench to spark the team in overtime as the No. 14 Bears beat No. 19 Eastchester, 54-47, in a Section 1, Class A girls basketball outbracket game on Saturday.

Brewster will travel to No. 3 Tappan Zee on Friday for a first-round game.

Mark had 19 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, and Galgano just missed a triple-double with 16 points, 14 boards and nine blocks.

Calicchia, a sophomore, was the catalyst with nine points, including going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in overtime.

“She was our spark, our energy off the bench,” Brewster coach Mike Castaldo said. “I couldn’t be more proud of the way she played. She won us the game when Eastchester erased a 15-point deficit in the third quarter.”

And the visitors actually took the lead in overtime until Mark – bloodied with a fat lip – called for the ball.

“I love that she wanted the ball in that situation,” Castaldo said. “She made a couple of great post moves and we re-took the lead and closed it out from the foul line.”

Led by Calicchia, Brewster was 9-for-10 from the line in OT.
